Updates On Several Things!

Took care of an annoying situation with a stray kitten and got in a good walk on a nice day, all in one! I ended up at my parent's old place, which looks dramatically different. I'll have to take pictures next time I go down there. Their dilapidated house was torn down and burned, all that's left is rubble and a few old falling apart outbuildings. Not to mention my sister's sad looking horses and a disgusting hog. Quite depressing, but I'll be going back to look through some stored boxes to see if there's anything worth salvaging. I saw some crocheted blankets and crockware, which might help "un-depress" (did I just get to make up a new word?) me when I get them home and cleaned up to use. Also a slightly damaged exercise bike that was my mom's. Not sure where to put that, but I want it for exercising when the weather is bad outside. On the plus side, my niece's husband Billy was there and we discussed the current economic situation among other...

The Eyes Have It!

Not sure why that title came to mind, unless you take into account that I currently have an eye for the banner and am going to update it with a nicer sketch I did freehand. Lots going on in my life right now...when it rains, it pours! Family needs lots of help, hubby had a big job change. I built a website for a local cafe and have plans to make things representing an online store. More details to follow. Must run and take care of something that's annoying me to no end, but I'll return soon and give details for anyone interested to read them.

Valentine's Day and a New Commission!

I went with Brian to Ophelia's Cup this afternoon. We arrived between lunch and dinner times so we had some coffee and small desserts, then headed to Walmart to do some shopping. We returned for a romantic candlelit dinner and interesting conversation with the newish owner. I asked about the website that was down and she told us that the original owner had to remove it because of a problem with a new server. She seemed eager to get it back online, so I offered to help and received an enthusiastic response. I'll be communicating with her about various aspects such as designs, theme, promotional ideas I have, etc. Stay tuned for more details as they arrive!

Looking Forward (NOT New Year Resolutions)

The wind is whistling, big snowflakes rapidly descending, promising a gradual whitening ground. I fail to capture it on camera, the flakes are too quick and my know-how is elusive. I'm glad the holidays are finally over and the house is being organized, cleaned, plans for outside repairs are being made into a proposal for insurance reimbursement. I was too sick after Thanksgiving (with a bad cold or flu that lasted two weeks) to make things I had planned, mail out cards, shop. Good thing I could order things online, everything got here on time for gift exchanges, with one exception. I hope to have more time to concentrate on several things this year. I'll finally have some quiet time with the house to myself so I can hear myself think! Plans/Things I hope to accomplish this year: Apply for disability since I can't see correctly to drive and have been sick too often to work. Make appointments for an opthomologist and dentist. I've been recommended for lens replacement su...

Heather's Brat and Potato Soup‏

I was emailed this recipe by a relative and am posting here to share with others because it sounds so good, you might want to try it. (These amounts were for two people with enough left over for one lunch tomorrow.) 3 bratwurst or other uncooked sausage, casings removed 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (I used extra virgin olive oil, I think it made it a little tastier) 1 potato (or more, but that's all I had) cut in small cubes, skin on About 1 cup cabbage (maybe 1/4 of a big head of cabbage? you'll probably leave this bit out, maybe you could substitute another filler veggie such as green beans) 2 1/2 cups chicken broth 1 tbsp flour 1/4 cup sour cream 1 tbsp red wine vinegar (apple cider vinegar would probably be yummy too) Good sprinkle of dill weed Tiny bit of salt and pepper Break up sausage in skillet, browning until no longer pink and in small eatable sized chunks. Heat oil in ...
